Harley-Davidson is issuing a major recall affecting more than 82,000 motorcycles over concerns that a faulty tire valve may lead to a sudden loss of air pressure — a serious safety risk that could increase the chance of crashes.
According to the recall notice filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the issue stems from the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS). The affected models may experience a rapid loss of tire pressure if the system fails, potentially reducing control and stability while riding.
Which Models Are Affected?
The recall affects select Touring and CVO Touring models manufactured between 2023 and 2024. Harley-Davidson says the valve may have been damaged during assembly, which could cause it to leak air unexpectedly.
What Should Riders Do?
Owners of affected motorcycles will be contacted by Harley-Davidson dealers starting this month. The company will offer free replacements of the faulty valve stems at authorized dealerships. Riders are advised to check their tire pressure frequently and avoid high-speed riding until the repair is complete.
Safety First
Tire pressure plays a crucial role in motorcycle handling, braking, and overall road safety. A sudden drop in pressure can cause instability, especially at high speeds or during cornering.
This recall is a reminder of the importance of regular tire maintenance and staying up to date on manufacturer safety notices.
